huge fan of dogs, quite partial to an ale when appropriate
James Bowers is one of Melbourne and Australia's most in demand keyboard players and pianists, in large part due to his versatility and musicality across multiple genres and instruments. His work with groups/artists such as Vaudeville Smash, True Live, Angus and Julia Stone, Dope Lemon, Elliott and Sex On Toast has seen him play across dozens of festivals and venues in Australia and abroad. James also works as a tutor, teacher and lecturer at the Australian Institute of Music.
Most recently, he has recorded on Australian-born, Tokyo-based Marty Holoubek's "Trio 1”. Earlier this year James returned to Tokyo to help launch this album with a series of live performances. Whilst in Japan, James also ventured in to the studio with Marty and drummer Shun Ishiwaka to record his debut album as a leader, to be released late 2020.
When at home, James is equally comfortable sitting behind the piano at Jazz clubs such as Bennetts Lane, Uptown Jazz Cafe and Paris Cat as he is working as a session keyboardist, or producing, mixing or arranging in his home studio. As a jazz pianist, James' playing has been recognised through first class Honours throughout his VCA degree, a finalist spot in the prestigious National Jazz Awards and most recently a 5-star review as part of the quartet for drummer Aaron Mccoullough's 2018 release “Provenience”.
